Target Closes Target Ticket Streaming Video ServiceAfter only 18 months, discount retailer Target has canceled its Target Ticket streaming video service. Launched in Fall 2013, the service allowed users to rent or purchase movies and TV shows, attempting to compete with other pay-as-you-go services like Blockbuster On Demand, Vudu, and M-GO.

Target Ticket's demise follows that of Redbox Instant, which shut down it's streaming video service in October 2014. In addition to the pay-as-you-go services above, Netflix and Hulu Plus are still going strong on Roku with their all-you-can-consume monthly subscription plans, as is Amazon Instant Video, which offers free videos to it's Prime members along with rental and purchase options.

What happens to Target Ticket subscribers? They're being transferred to the CinemaNow service, an early entrant into the on-demand video streaming market that was formed in 1999 and later acquired by Best Buy. Target Ticket credits will be transferred to CinemaNow, and video libraries can be transferred by visiting www.cinemanow.com/targetticket. Members have until March 7, 2020 to transfer their libraries.

For content that is not available on CinemaNow, CinemaNow accounts will be credited for the amount you paid after the library transfer process has been initiated. Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies purchased from Target Ticket can be viewed on Disney Movies Anywhere (available on Roku through the Vudu channel).
