Sling TV adding ESPN3, personalized user interface At this week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in Las Vegas, Sling TV announced two major changes to its service: The addition of ESPN3 as part of the basic Best of Live TV package, and a new user interface that will make it easier to find movies and TV shows of interest to the individual subscriber.

ESPN3

ESPN3 is different than other ESPN channels. Instead of a single live stream like a conventional TV channel, ESPN3 offers access to as many as 60 different events at any given time. You can watch a wide range of sports from NCAA college football and NBA basketball to cricket and lacrosse.

Previously available on Roku only as part of WatchESPN, and available only to customers of participating ISPs and TV providers, ESPN3 will be part of Sling TV's $20/month basic package, which already includes ESPN and ESPN2. Sling TV also announced that there would be no price increase in 2016, so you won't be hit with any additional fees for ESPN3.

My TV

Sling TV updated its Roku user interface only a month ago, but more changes are in store. Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch acknowledged that viewers have a hard time finding content of interest among all of the live channels and many thousands of hours of on-demand video. Sling TV will again be updating the user interface, which will include the addition of a new feature called My TV. My TV will let users resume shows they have not finished watching, will recommend shows based on past viewing activity, and will provide a list of users' favorite shows and channels.

Sling TV didn't announce with ESPN3 would be available. The updated UI will start rolling out to some users in the first quarter of 2016, and will be phased in across all devices.
