Roku Announces Future 4K Ultra HD Support and More Roku TV Models

Roku TVRoku is making news at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, CES 2015, in Las Vegas this week. Roku made three big announcements today, including future support for 4K Ultra HD streaming, and the availability of new Roku TV models and additional Roku TV brands.

In Roku's first announcement, TCL, which has been offering several Roku TV models since last fall, will be shipping 12 new TCL Roku TV models in the first half of 2015.

In addition to new models from TCL, two more manufacturers, Haier and Insignia, will soon begin offering Roku TVs. Insignia Roku TV models will be available, exclusively from Best Buy, this spring. Haier will offer Roku TVs starting this summer.

Finally, support for 4K Ultra HD is coming. Roku has created a "reference design" for TV manufacturers so that they can start building 4K support into Roku TVs. TCL was named as a manufacturing partner that is currently working on a 4K Roku TV model. No date was given for when the 4K Roku TV would be available, but Roku did say that they are working with Netflix to provide 4K content for streaming on the Roku platform.

More details on these announcements can be found on Roku's blog.
