Chess Online lets you play chess against online human opponents, the machine, or a friend. You can also play what are called "puzzles." The game includes the following options:
- Play Online - Select "ranked" or "normal" and you'll be presented with an online opponent who you can accept or reject.
- Play AI - Select the game difficulty in a dozen increments from 500 to 2000.
- Play a Friend - Create or join a room to play against an online friend, or select "offline" to play with an opponent present in the same location as you. If you or a friend create a room, a six-digit code will be displayed; the other player uses this code to enter the room.
- Puzzles - Try to select the correct moves during an in-progress game.
The game is free to play with ads, but you can buy ad-free play by the week, month, or year. You can also upgrade your avatar, frames, pieces, and board with game coins. Game coins are available for purchase (see Fees section below), but you can also get 5 coins each time you elect to watch an optional ad. In addition, you gain 5 coins for activities like logging in, playing a normal game, and winning without losing a queen. These daily awards are made once per day for each activities. There are also weekly awards of 25 points for tasks like capturing a total of 100 pieces and winning give games in ranked mode.
