Hex

Hex is a 2-player board game where each player tries to connect opposite sides of a rhombus-shaped board by taking turns selecting a cell. The game was invented in 1942 but was released as Hexmaster for 8-bit Atari home computers in the early 1980s.

On Roku, Hex is played on a traditional 11x11 rhombus board (see screenshots below). You can play against the machine or another player, but gameplay is local so both players will need to play on the same Roku and share the remote. Playing is very simple, although there are a number of strategy considerations. To play, use the directional arrows on the remote to highlight a cell, then press the OK button to add your color to that cell. Play then passes to the machine or your opponent. Once you place your color in a cell, it cannot be changed. The first player to color in cells to connect one side of the board to the other wins the game. (In case it isn't obvious, the Red player must connect the two red sides and the Blue player must connect the two blue sides.)
