Animal Run is an endless running game - think of it as a simplistic version of Nintendo's classic Super Mario Bros. But to play you will first need to exit it out of several screens prompting you to subscribe, purchase pro packs, and buy additional characters. Just use your Roku remote's back button to get through these, and then exit out of the demonstration of a car race game (the "play" button doesn't let you play, it only tells you how to find the Roku app).
Once you arrive at the actual game, you'll move your avatar around (and above and below) a variety of obstacles while collecting coins and other goodies (see screenshots below). The [LEFT] and [RIGHT] directional buttons move your avatar in those directions, while the [UP] button lets you jump over or on top of obstacles while the [DOWN] button lets you slide under them.
If this game interests you enough to pay, note that you can purchase a monthly or annual subscription (see Fees section below) that unlocks all of the characters, but if you exit that screen you can purchase the full game and unlock two characters for $5, or get the full game and three characters for $10. (If you want three characters, you'll do better to buy the $5 version with two characters and then purchase a third for $3.) During our review, a "special offer" appeared that allowed the purchase of the full game and all characters for $10.
