When discussing the effects of cordcutting, I've never heard anyone say they were keeping their cable or satellite TV service so they could continue watching QVC. But home shopping channels are enormously popular - and profitable. QVC reported $8 billion in yearly revenue in 2012, with Home Shopping Network claiming $3 billion. Shopping channel fans will find the biggest and most popular channels on Roku. And to help you find those channels, Roku has created a new Shopping category in the Channel Store to pull those channels together. Here's a rundown on what you'll find.
If you haven't watched QVC lately, you may be surprised to find that it has more to offer than just talking heads pushing consumer goods. The channel offers special events like Willie Nelson's recent hour-long concert special (Willie is, of course, promoting his latest CD), while David Venable, host of QVC's "In the Kitchen with David", boasts over 300,000 Facebook fans. The QVC TV Roku channel features a livestream of QVC's broadcast.
HSN has also learned to sell through special events, which include an upcoming performance by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. HSN's Roku channel also offers a livestream of the HSN broadcast, but adds interactive capabilities that include the option to purchase directly from your Roku.
Other popular shopping channels available on Roku include ShopHQ, Jewelry Television, Liquidation Channel, Gem Shopping Network, and The Coin Vault. Rounding out the Shopping category, direcSHOP Television and Stream N' Shop offer continuous infomercials, while Angie's List TV brings you a video library to help you shop for the best home services.
