Your Independent TV Streamer Guide

Whitaker TV Go

Quick Look: Whitaker TV Go is the Roku app for cable alternative Whitaker TV, a live TV streaming service that offers virtually every cable network in the U.S., including premium networks such as Cinemax, HBO, and Starz, and a wide range of sports networks. The app, which is also available for Android and iOS devices, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV, provides over 2,000 live steams.

The primary drawback to Whitaker TV Go is the lack of a programming grid and the rudimentary user interface. No information is provided regarding current or upcoming shows. Channels are listed in a column on the left side of the screen with a preview shown on the right side of the screen. To access any channel, you have to scroll down a long list of channels, although you can narrow your choices by selecting any of the following categories (available categories will vary based on the service plan you choose): Entertainment, Sports, Movies, News, Local Networks, Documentaries, Kids, Religious, Music, Canada, Spanish, Latino, NFL Games, NHL Games, 24/7 TV Shows, PPV Games, MLB Games, NBA, Adults, ESPN Plus.

Although the service boasts a large number of live streams, a great many of these are streams dedicated to a single show, and in many cases, there is one stream per season. The Simpsons, for example, accounts for 30 channnels - one for each season of the show. And, as with traditional cable, a large part of the advertised channel count is made up of music channels, regional sports networks, and multiple live sports channels that are active only during a live game.

But instead of focusing on the number of channels, you should pay attention to channel content. As stated previously, you'll probably have no problem finding your favorite entertainment channels. In addition to cable networks like DIY, Whitake TV carries OTA channels like MeTV and Antennae. News junkies will appreciate the availability of CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, One America News Network, and other news networks, while sports fans have access to Sky Sports, Bein Sports, Big Ten Network, ESPN, Fox RSNs, NBC Sports, NFL Redzone, NHL Network, SEC Network, MLB Network, NBA TV, and many other sports channels.

Also available are premium services such as Cinemax , Epix, Hallmark, HBO, Lifetime Movies, Showtime, Sony Movie Channel, and Starz. Perhaps what is most remarkable, however, is the availability of live feeds from ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates from across the US, not from just a handful of markets like you'll find on other live TV streaming services.

Whitaker TV offers a 24-hour free trial that includes all USA, Canadian, Latino, Spanish, Sports, and PPV content, including 2000+ live streams and the ability to stream on up to three devices at one time. A full list of channels can be found on the Whitaker TV website. (CAUTION: Be careful when selecting the "with adults" or "without adults" option. "With adults" includes several channels of explicit sexual content intended only for viewers aged 18 and older.)
