Vintage Audio Video Channel

Vintage Audio Video ChannelTHIS CHANNEL IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN THE ROKU CHANNEL STORE.

RokuGuide Review: The first thing I noticed about this channel's content was that it included a whole section of videos on current-day political and otherwise-controversial topics - information that is decidedly not "vintage". The Info category includes series on "the global warming hoax", the threat of communism, survivalist tactics, and a series call New World Order that includes videos titled The Brotherhood of Darkness and The Decline and Fall of America. There is also a FEMA Camp series with videos that, according to their titles, discuss fascism, FEMA death camps to kill America's homeless, and the end of our freedom due to surveillance and a cashless society. (The FEMA videos didn't work on my Roku.) These are not exactly the types of videos that I thought I was getting when I purchased a channel with "vintage audio video" in the title. But there are vintage videos under other categories, so let's move along to those.

There are three other categories: Movies (Westerns/Documentaries), Movies Plus (Movies/Sherlock Holmes/Animation), and Classic Television (Andy Griffith/Petticoat Junction). Within those categories, there isn't much organization and you will have to hunt for the videos you want to watch.

The Movies (Westerns/Documentaries) category includes three subcategories where you will find 21 Westerns, 21 Roy Rogers films and TV episodes, 12 documentaries.

The Movies Plus (Movies/Sherlock Holmes/Animation) category includes 11 movies, some duplicated from elsewhere in the channel, 20 Sherlock Holmes episodes from the 1954 television series, and 22 cartoons, including single videos of several classic characters such as Popeye, Superman, Foghorn Leghorn, and Bugs Bunny.

Classic Television (Andy Griffith/Petticoat Junction) offers 56 episodes of a variety of television series such as Victory at Sea, Peter Gunn, Bonanza, Wagon Train, and Beverly Hillbillies. The TV series are not complete, and some series are represented by only one episode. Don't expect a complete compilation of the Andy Griffith - or even a complete season.

As a whole, this channel is a poorly-organized assortment of old movies and TV shows thrown together in a mostly-random fashion. The video quality is variable. Some of the movies are similar in quality to what you will find on Movie Vault and Pub-D-Hub. Unfortunately, many videos are of horrible quality with a lot of pixelation; these were obviously originally destined for a small window on a computer screen, but have been re-purposed for TV viewing.

Should you spend a few bucks on this channel? Only if you watch to watch the odd assortment of old TV episodes that are available here, or if you're interested in the propaganda-like videos in the Info category. You'll find a much better selection of classic films on Movie Vault and on Pub-D-Hub. Pub-D-Hub also has a good selection of old TV series, although there are TV episodes on this channel that aren't available on Pub-D-Hub.
