Library Free

Quick Look: Library Free was originally launched on Roku in March 2017, but has been relaunched as with a few new titles and categories. The channel provides a collection of vintage public domain books presented as audio books and video e-books. The four audio books are "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "A Journey to the Interior of the Earth," "Anne of Green Gables (Book 1)" and The Book of Dragons", Video e-books are available in the following categories:

  • Audio Books- 9 titles to choose from including Alice in Wonderland, Around the World in 80 days and Dracula"
  • Craft Books - 5 titles, including "Fancy Braid and Crochet Book" and "Exercises in Knitting"
  • E-Books - 5 titles, including "The Story of Jack and the Giants" and "Black Beauty"
  • Genealogy Books - 5 titles such as "Vital Records of Farmingdale, Maine, to the Year 1892"
  • Recipe Cook Books - 5 titles, including "Things Mother used to Make" and "Chinese Cook Book in Plain English"
  • >History Slide Shows - 5 videos available

  • Sign Language Programs - 14 titles, which all appear to be cartoons (including "Hepcat," "Play Safe" and "The Three Bears" that are narrated in American Sign Language

The video e-books are not navigated in the same manner as a normal e-book on your tablet, Kindle or similar device. Each page in the book is displayed as you would expect, but the entire book is presented as a video. To read a page, you need to hit pause on your Roku remote. You cannot jump ahead back page by page, but you can fast-forward and rewind, which makes it difficult to go to a specific page. The screenshots below will give you a better idea of how these books are presented.
