Quick Look: Hulu is one of the pioneers of video on demand (VOD) streaming services, with the Hulu Plus subscription service launching in 2010 with access to full seasons of TV shows and immediate access to new episodes. Hulu with Live TV appeared in 2017 as a "cable alternative" service with a lineup of popular linear television channels.
Hulu's Roku channel provides viewers with access to both the VOD-only and the live TV services. The VOD service includes original Hulu shows, NBC, ABC, and Fox TV shows and movies, along with programming from cable networks that include A&E, Bravo, E!, PBS, FX, NFL Network, Oxygen, SundanceTV, Syfy, and others. A full list of Hulu's VOD programming can be found here.
Hulu's basic VOD plan is only $5.99/month after one month free and includes unlimited ad-supported access to the Hulu streaming library. If you don't want to see any ads, you can upgrade to Hulu's ad-free plan, which also includes a free month for new users, for $11.99/month. The best value is the bundle of Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ for $12.99/month.
If you're looking for a cable alternative, Hulu + Live TV costs $64.99/month after a one-week free trial. In addition to the ad-supported basic VOD service described above, you'll get over 50 live and on-demand TV channels that include sports, news, and entertainment. If you want more viewing options, the Entertainment Add-On provides ten additional channels. Additional add-ons include Unlimited Screens, Enhanced Cloud DVR, and Espanol Add-on.
Prices and options are subject to change.
