Doodle Jump

Quick Look: Doodle Jump is an arcade-style game in which you collect points as you move up the playing field by jumping from ledge to ledge. The name comes from the fact that the game looks like it was drawn by someone doodling on graph paper (see the screenshot below).

When playing Doodle Jump, your avatar will continually jump, but your job is to move left and right to land on successively higher ledges. Land on a spring for a even higher jump; jetpacks and rockets will shoot you up even further. If you miss a ledge, you can save yourself by steering to a lower one, but be careful - the ledges disappear as they scroll off the screen. And watch out for the monsters. If they're above you, the up arrow on your remote will fire a shot at them. If they're below you, you can jump off their heads and keep moving up (at least, that was the case with the monsters I encountered - your creatures may be different).

The game gets more difficult the higher you go, with ledges becoming farther apart, and in some cases you'll need to land on a moving ledge to hit a spring There are other goodies that you'll discover as you play. Roku Channel Store descriptions often over-hype the app they describe, but in this case I have to agree that this is an addictive game.

Doodle Jump tracks the highest score. The only game improvement I can think of would be to track a certain number of high scores, with the ability to enter a name or initials. As for ads, you'll have to sit through a single commercial after every few failed attempts, but the interruptions are minimal.

For a holiday version of this game, play Doodle Jump Christmas.
