DC Universe

Quick Look: DC Universe is a subscription service, currently available on Roku and Android devices, that provides subscribers with access to a large library of television shows, films, and comic books featuring DC Comics superheroes. At launch, Roku users have access to content in the following primary categories:

Movies - At launch, there are 20 movies available, including Superman movies from 1978's Superman: The Movie through the 2018 release "The Death of Superman." You'll also find "Wonder Woman" (2009), Green Lantern: First Flight (2009), several Batman movies, and more.
Animated Series - There are currently a dozen series, with several season of each. Series include "Super Friends" (1973-1985), "Justice League" (2001-2004), and "Batman: The Animated Series" (1992-1995).
Series - Nine TV series, including "WonderWoman" (1975-1979), "Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman" (1993-1997), and "The Adventures of Superboy" (1988-1992).
Specials - These include "Secret Origin: The Story of DC Comics (2009) and "The Science of Superman" (2006).
Shorts - Twenty "DC Nation Shorts" are currently available.

Those are the video categories, but DC Universe is also filled with a large number of comics. If you're looking for something specific, use the search feature for best results, as the comics aren't always arranged in a logical order. If you just want to browse, you'll find the following curated categories of comics on the home screen:

If you're wondering how comic books look on a TV, see the screenshots below. As for how viewing them works, each edition launches with a single page shown on the TV. Pressing the * key on your Roku remote brings up a menu bar at the bottom of the screen, where you can change to view to show one panel per screen, or fit the page to width of the TV screen and scroll down the page. You can also turn autoplay on or off and set autoplay timing. (Autoplay is on by default, but you can also turn it off and back on using the remote's pause button). If reading comics on the TV seems awkward to you, remember that your DC Universe subscription will allow you to read them (and watch the videos) on mobile devices as well. Some people will feel more comfortable reading the comics on a tablet but watching the videos on a big screen.

You'll need to subscribe to DC Universe to stream any content, but you can browse the entire library for free. Also, expect more content to be added, including original series. If you like what you see in the library and want to try the service, you'll get a 7-day free trial - just cancel before the trial is up to avoid being charged.
