Quick Look: All Screen Receiver is the companion channel to the All Screen Android app that allows users the ability to cast personal media - music, photos, and videos - from their Android phone or tablet to their Roku.
All screen is extremely easy to set up and get started with. Just launch the app on your Android device and the All Screen Receiver on your Roku - keep in mind that both must be operating on the same home network. The app will automatically find and list all Roku devices on your network. Select the one you want to cast to, select the media you want to cast, and that's it.
The app will find your mobile device's photo and video gallery, any media servers on the network, and cloud drives like Dropbox and Google Drive. Photos will display for 10 seconds with default settings, but you can change that to 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds. Some work remains to be done with photos, though. I couldn't find any way to cast photos in slideshow fashion; after a photo displays for the allotted time, the app jumps back to the gallery and the Roku displays the All Screen Receiver splash screen. You have to continually select individual photos from your photo gallery.
Casting music also needs a bit of work. The app lets you browse by song, album, artist, and playlist, and you can cast a single song or an entire album. Fast-forward to the next song in an album, though, and the Roku channel stays stuck on what you just fast-forwarded through. The channel also fails to load the album art and the artist and album information - only the song title is displayed.
Despite the drawbacks, All Screen and the companion All Screen Receiver are a good entry-level package for casting personal media to your Roku - and it's free!
All Screen also works with a number of other streaming devices, including Chromecast,Fire TV and Fire Stick, Apple TV, Kodi/XBMC, Xbox, and many smart TVs.
