Quick Look: Adult Swim, also shown as [adult swim], is the nighttime programming on Cartoon Channel. As described by Wikipedia, shows on Adult Swim "may have sexual themes, frank sexual discussion, nudity, strong language, and graphic violence; in other words, programs that would be deemed inappropriate if aired during the day on Cartoon Network, when children would be watching." For those not familiar with the type of content available on Adult Swim, an example is provided at the end of this review.
On Roku, Adult Swim carries a wealth of unlocked content for cord cutters, requiring no authentication with a pay TV provider. "Shows" is the place to start if you know the show you want to watch, or just want to browse. Adult Swim offers full seasons of over 50 shows, including popular programs such as Rick and Morty, The Venture Bros, Robot Chicken, American Dad, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, and many more.
"Marathons" offers continuous programming of episodes from several different Adult Swim shows; pick a show and you'll be treated to a live stream of that show. There is no ability to pause, rewind or fast-forward. A dozen marathons are currently available, including Rick and Morty, The Venture Bros., Robot Chicken, and Black Jesus. Other free streams are also available, including [AS] Stream and Channel 5.
A simulcast of the cable channel, which airs from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am Eastern, is also available to authenticated pay TV subscribers. To authenticate your pay TV subscription and activate the locked Adult Swim videos, go to the Settings selection on the Adult Swim Roku channel home screen and select "TV Provider Login." Then go to www.adultswim.com/ned on a computer or mobile device, select your streaming device (Adult Swim is currently available only on Roku and Amazon Fire TV), and enter the code shown on the Roku channel. After entering a valid activation code, select your pay TV provider and enter your username and password for that service.
