AOL Launches AOL HD Channel on Roku

AOL HDRemember AOL? Once the king of internet access providers, they merged with Time-Warner in a bid to leverage traditional media with the web. That didn't work, so they split with Time-Warner several years later. Trying a new approach to gain content, they acquired Huffington-Post earlier this year. That has all been well-publicized, but you may be surprised to learn that AOL properties also include such well-known names as Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, and MapQuest.

Today, in an effort to provide wider dissemination of content from AOL's properties, AOL launched the AOL HD channel on Roku, Boxee, and Yahoo Connected TV. AOL HD delivers high-definition video in three categories: entertainment, technology, and home. Video content comes from Moviefone, Engadget and HuffPost Entertainment, and other sources. Also included is AOL Music's CD Listening Party (CDLP). CDLP offers free previews of albums before they're released. According to AOL's press release, new video channels and content, including casual games, will be introduced later this year.
