Amazon Instant VideoAmazon is testing monthly subscriptions to its popular Amazon Prime service, which offers unlimited access to thousands of movies and TV shows through the Amazon Instant Video Channel on Roku and other devices. Previously available only as an annual subscription for $79, Prime is currently being offered at $7.99 per month.

Update (Nov 16, 2012): Amazon has ended its testing of the monthly service according to Engadget.

In addition to unlimited Prime Instant Videos, a prime subscription give Amazon customers free two-day shipping on physical merchandise and access to e-books in the Kindle library. The addition of a monthly option is seen by some as a potential threat to other streaming video services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus. Those services have a wider selection of videos, but Amazon has been making big strides in adding to it's video collection.

For those who aren't interested in Amazon's prime membership and prefer to pay-as-you-go, all of Amazon's online streaming videos, including those in the Prime library, are still available for individual rental and/or purchase.
