Quick Look: Muffin Knight is an action game that tells the story of a little boy who tried to eat the muffins of an old fairy. The basket of enchanted muffins blew up, scattering the muffins throughout the land. The old fairy turned the boy into a knight, and now he must go on a long journey, battling evil creatures along the way, to retrieve the fairy's magic muffins so that he can be turned back into his original little boy self.
This game was originally released as a smartphone app and has now been re-released on the Roku. Game play is fairly simple. You go back and forth in the play area picking up muffins as they appear. As you collect muffins, you get points to unlock new characters with different powers with which to battle your enemies. As you battle, your character changes between ones you have unlocked. One moment you're an archer sending arrows to your enemies, then suddenly you're a unicorn that can only jump over them. A second or two later, you have a pumpkin head and your only defense is to roll pumpkins. And if you aren't careful, those pumpkins will hit a wall and roll back to flatten you.
You can see some examples for yourself in the Muffin Knight gameplay trailer on YouTube. Remember, this game was originally developed for the limited capabilities of a smartphone, so don't expect action in the same league as Call of Duty. Still, you may find this game to be entertaining, especially with a purchase price of only two bucks.
