Quick Look: Redbox has relaunched its streaming video service, which is now available on the Redbox. channel on Roku. The channel is free to add and all you need to do is create an account and follow the on screen instructions to start watching hundreds of new and popular movie and television titles from the comfort of your couch, eliminating that trip down to the local kiosk, standing in the cold and deciding what you want to watch.
The Redbox. channel does not require monthly subscriptions, you pay as you go. You have 30 days to watch a movie once it is rented, and 48 hours to complete the movie once you start streaming. Account information is transferable across different platforms so you can start watching on one device and finish it on another. In addition to movie rentals you can purchase digital copies through this service. Rental and purchase prices vary depending on the popularity but typically run between $2.99 to $4.99 for film rentals and $14.99 to $17.99 for movie and television series purchases.
If you are not sure about setting up an account, you can still browse the continuously changing library of content. Each title offers a written description including cast and director, and in most cases a movie or show trailer is also available for free.
If you do decide to join, you can rent or purchase videos directly through the Roku channel. One additional perk to adding this channel is after you confirm your email address you will be given a code for one free movie rental that can be used at either the Redbox kiosk or on the Roku channel.
