RokuGuide Quick Look: CamsOnTV lets you select from hundreds of webcams to watch on your Roku-connected TV. And it has some really cool features. Start off by browsing through the top 100 cams ("Fan Faves"), as selected by CamsOnTV users. Currently at the top of the list is Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier, along with Clearwater Beach, The National Mall, Old Faithful, El Capitan, and many other famous sites. If you want a cam that's not in the Fan Faves list, the Add Camera option lets you select from a map of U.S. cams.
Press the * button on your remote when viewing a cam and you'll get information, if available, about that cam. While viewing a cam, you can add it your personalized list to avoid searching for it later. You can also nominate a cam as a Fan Fave, and you can view any cam in full screen mode. While in full screen mode, CamsOnTV will scroll through all the cams on your personalized list unless you elect to pause the display.
Don't overlook the ability to use CamsOnTV as your screensaver. After you've installed CamsOnTV and set up your personalized list of cams, go back to the Channel Store on your Roku, highlight CamsOnTV, and press the * button on your Roku remote. You'll have the option to set CamsOnTV as your screensaver. When active as a screensaver, the app will scroll through your cam selections in full screen mode.
One limitation of the app is that it displays only static images, which reload at intervals set by the webcam owner. This isn't the fault of the app, though, it's a limitation of the Roku itself. Also, you can't enter the address of a cam yourself; you're limited to those already available in the app. The website allows suggestions for new webcams, but the suggestions must come from the cam's owner. If you want to view a cam not currently available, you will need either WebCam-One or WebCam Plus.
