MediaFire

Quick Look: MediaFire is a cloud storage service that allows you to upload your media files and then access them on any device. Well, almost any device. The MediaFire channel on Roku supports only video - don't bother uploading music or photos if you want to access them through your Roku.

To use this channel you will need to create an account on the MediaFire Registration Page. You can chose from 3 available packages depending on your needs:

  • Basic - Free 10GB storage, with ad-supported downloads
  • Pro - $2.49/month, 1TB (1,000GB) Storage, ad-free sharing and download
  • Business - $24.99/month, up to 100 TB Storage

The Pro and Business plans each offer many other benefits beyond the amount of storage and ad-free sharing and downloads.

Once you've registered, the MediaFire website annoyingly starts an automatic download of a 60MB file, which will install their desktop application on your computer. The automatic download is a deal-killer for me, but if you look closely at the bottom of the post-registration page you'll see an option to manage your files through your browser without installing the desktop app.

After uploading your videos, launch the MediaFire channel on your Roku and sign in. But make sure you've verified your e-mail address first by clicking on the link in an e-mail they send to the address you use when registering. If you don't verify, you won't be able to log into the Roku channel. MediaFire also makes it difficult, if not impossible, to delete a free account. The instructions tell you to use the "delete account" button on the Account and Billing page, but no such button exists when using the Web browser interface.

All things considered, there are much better options for streaming media to your Roku. Visit the Personal Media channel category for more options.
