Backgammon Board Game

Backgammon Board Game is not the most elegantly designed game on Roku. Oddly, the game takes up only a portion of the available screen (see screenshots below) and there are no instructions on how to make moves. However, we provide some of that information below.

For those unfamiliar with this game, backgammon is a two-player board game that uses playing pieces and dice and a board with of twenty-four narrow triangles called points. The objective is to be the first player to bear off all of their markers. The rules of the game are beyond the scope of our review, but you can find rules from the US Backgammon Federation here.

When launched, you have to option to play against the machine or to make it a two-player game. (There are no online players, the other player must be present with you, sharing the Roku remote.) The left side of the board shows whose turn it is with green indicator.

If there's a green square around the dice, press OK on your remote to roll. One of the pieces will turn green; you can press OK to move it, or use directional arrows on your remote to select a different piece. Once you have selected a piece with the OK button, the board will show a location where the piece can be moved to; press OK to place it in that position, or select a different location and press OK.
