RokuGuide Review: Amazon Instant Video offers a mix of payment options for their streaming video service, which serves up both movies and TV shows. Amazon Prime subscribers have unlimited access to thousands of videos as part of their Amazon Prime membership(which also includes free shipping on much of Amazon's physical merchandise), and can rent or purchase thousands more. Non-subscribers can rent or purchase movies and TV shows from the entire library, including the titles that are free to Prime subscribers.
The Amazon Instant Video offers a Watchlist that lets you queue titles for future viewing, along with a Video Library for those titles you've purchased. For Prime members, there is also a separate Prime Instant Video menu category that lets you browse only those titles that are included with your membership.
The Amazon Instant Video also provides direct access to the Amazon Cloud Player, from which you can stream MP3 music you've purchased from Amazon, and any MP3 music tracks that you've uploaded to the service. The main menu also provides access to personal recommendations and to special deals, which includes movies under $3 and TV seasons under $15.
The main menu Movie and TV selections will take you to similar categories for each, but TV has a useful category called Your Next Episodes that takes you directly to the next episode in each TV series that you've watched. This is a huge improvement; in the past, users had to hunt for the season they were watching, and then remember which was the last episode watched. TV videos are also categorized by channel for those who want to browse through, for example, all shows from Discovery Channel, AMC, or Bravo. There are shows available from 21 channels.
