Philo, a sports-free streaming TV service that is "focused on entertainment, lifestyle and knowledge programming," is the latest entrant in the live TV streaming service wars. At launch, Roku is the only set-top box supported, but subscribers can also stream through web browsers and an iOS app.

Roku's US customers now have access to the Deezer streaming music service with more than 43 million on-demand music tracks from record labels that include EMI, Sony, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. Similar to Spotify, the European-based Deezer allows unlimited streaming and the ability to select any song. Deezer was previously available on Roku only in Europe, and will soon be available to Roku users in Latin American countries as well.

Roku this week announced that their latest firmware, OS 8, will begin rolling out to Roku players early this month and to Roku TVs in November. Highlights of OS 8 include integration of over-the-air broadcast TV with streaming content on Roku TVs, enhanced search and voice control, TV Everywhere single sign-on to eliminate having to enter login credentials multiple times, and an updated 4K Spotlight Channel.
