Your Independent TV Streamer Guide

UnSung Quick Look: Unsung brings Karaoke home with out any additional equipment beyond your Roku and connected TV. The channel is a virtual karaoke machine that can be stored by simply turning off the channel. The channel is ad-sponsored, but otherwise free. There is not an overabundance of commercials, but you may have to wait a minute or two before you belt out your rendition of "Achy Breaky Heart".

There is an extensive library of popular songs that most people would be familiar with. Of course there are the standards like "American Pie", "Cat's in the Cradle", "Dancing with Myself" and "Freebird", but there are many less traditional songs available as well. The library is listed alphabetically, or you can use the "Search" option. This is a handy option, since scrolling through hundreds of titles can be overwhelming. You simply click on the *(star) button on your remote and start entering a title. The search option narrows the results down with every letter entered until you see the correct title. Once you have selected your song, and watched a commercial, the lyrics start scrolling along the bottom of the screen and change color to assist you in singing along. The songs are also accompanied with a video that loosely pertains to the song.

The sound quality, in my opinion, seemed off. It was definitely not the "original" instrumentation, but more of a synthesized sound. The other potential drawback, besides the commercials, is that the library of music is only available on the Roku channel, which means that if you are searching, others can not be singing. All in all it seems like a fun channel to add to your library.

For other karaoke options on your Roku, try Karaoke Party on Demand, Karaoke Party On Demand Free, Sunfly Karaoke, and Tropical Zone Karaoke. During the Christmas season, you may also be interested in CAROL-OKE.
