Quick Look: Shut the Box was originally developed as an iPad game, and has now been ported to the Roku. Billed as "a game of brains, skill, and chance", you play by rolling 1 or 2 dice and then flipping numbered tiles that add up to the dice total. The game ends when there are no tile combinations that equal the dice total. The objective is to leave as few tiles unturned as possible at the end of the game.
There are three scoring options:
- Golf - Any remaining tiles are added together. Leaving "2" and "3" gives a score of "5".
- Missionary - The number of remaining tiles are counted. Leaving "2" and "3" gives a score of "2".
- Digital - Remaining tiles are read as digits that make a number. Leaving "2" and "3" gives a score of "23".
Under all three scoring options, the lower the better.
There are also several different ways to start the game, each with a different starting selection of tiles: All up, 1 Down, 2 Down, 3 Down, Odds, Evens. You can also choose between 9 and 12 starting tiles. Unfortunately, Shut The Box does not track high scores.
The original Shut the Box game was a one-time purchase of $0.99; this is a re-release as a free ad-supported game.
