RokuGuide Quick Look: Redbox Instant offers subscribers access to over 5,500 streaming movies on the Roku, plus four one-night video rentals from Redbox vending machines. Users can also rent or purchase many movies that are not currently available for free streaming. For example, search for recently-released Mud (2013) on the Roku channel, and you'll be given the option to reserve the title at a local kiosk, rent in SD ($4.99) or HD ($5.99), or buy in SD ($14.50) or HD ($15.99). If you elect to reserve at a kiosk, you'll be presented with a list of locations based on your billing address. If you rent, you'll be able to start watching anytime within 30 days, but must finish within 48 hours of starting.
From the home screen, you can choose the search option, browse movies, locate games that can be rented from a kiosk, or view account information such as reminders of movies that have upcoming rental expirations, your watch history, and bookmarked titles.
The Roku channel offers several filters for browsing movies. You can browse titles available with a subscription, those available only at a kiosk, videos available for rental and purchase, or all of the above. The format filer lets you limit to HD, SD, DVD, or Blu-ray if you don't want to see all versions. The filter rating lets you select from G, PG, PG-13, R, Unrated, and NR. You can also sort by release date or by fan rating.
Redbox Instant is available to U.S. customers with a Roku 3, Roku 2, Roku HD (model 2500) or Roku LT (models 2400 & 2450) player or the Roku Streaming Stick.
