PlayCast

PlayCast provides users with the ability to send videos from your computer's web browser to a Roku-connected TV that's on the same network. To do this, you will need to subscribe to the PlayOn service and install the PlayOn media server on your computer. Once you've enabled PlayOn in your web browser, you can "cast" videos from YouTube, Hulu, and other services to your Roku-connected TV. Oddly, you can't watch these videos in the PlayCast channel. PlayCast is only an informational channel to promote the service. You will need to install the private PlayOn channel to stream your web videos.

In my initial testing, PlayCast seems to be an excellent (although not free) option for viewing YouTube videos on your Roku. In my computer's PlayCast settings I saved my YouTube username and password. Now, from my Roku, I have access to videos from my subscriptions, playlist, history, and watch-later list. There are also many YouTube channels available to let you browse the YouTube library. The PlayOn service has many more features available, but I'll have to save those for a full review - coming soon.

Note that PlayOn is currently offering a discount to Roku users with an annual subscription of only $9.99 per year, but you will need to install the PlayCast channel and launch it to get the redemption code. To get the special Roku rate, you will have to visit http://www.playon.tv/playcast and click on the "Redeem Now" link. You will then be able to enter your redemption code.
