Channel Review: THIS CHANNEL IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN THE ROKU CHANNEL STORE. please try the Picasa2 private channel, which offers the same functionality but has been updated to fix the bugs that many people are experiencing in this channel.
If you aren't familiar with the Picasa brand, Picasa is a free photo management software package from Google that lets you organize, edit, and share your photos. Picasa Web Albums is an online photo and video sharing service, which can optionally be synced with the Picasa software. The service allows for 15 GB of free cloud storage.
Picasa Web albums users can view their own photos on their TV using the Roku Picasa channel. To link the Roku channel to your Picasa account, you will need to visit roku.chrishoffman.org/picasa and enter the activation code shown on the Picasa channel.
Once you've linked the channel to your account, you will be able to browse your photo albums. If you have tagged your photos, you can also browse by tag. The channel also allows you to display a slideshow of random photos from your Picasa albums.
Tired of your photos? You can also view a slideshow of "featured" photos from other Picasa users, or view photos you've marked as favorites from the Picasa (use the "Like" link below each photo). Use the Community Search function to pull up a slideshow of photos from any keyword you desire.
As noted above, there are many slideshow options (your own photos, "liked" photos, and photos from keyword searches), but these must be manually activated. If you prefer to have a slideshow launch automatically when your Roku is idle, you can do so with the Picasa Web Albums Screensaver channel.
