DriveCast

DriveCastQuick Look: DriveCast's purpose is to act as a central application to synch multimedia files across devices. From a Web-based application, you can add podcasts, record Internet radio stations, play your own files from cloud storage services such as Dropbox and Google Drive, and watch videos from services like YouTube and Vimeo. Once you've added them to your DriveCast library, they are available on any of your devices running the DriveCast app. That includes your Roku after you've paired the Roku app with your DriveCast account.

That's the intent, anyway. I admittedly didn't spend hours of time exploring this app, but I did set up a free account and added content to my library. I added NRP's Car Talk podcast, a video I created and stored on Google Drive, my Vimeo "Watch Later" list, and my YouTube channels. The only content available on my Roku were the podcasts. The Vimeo and YouTube videos appeared in my DriveCast Live Library where they could be played on my computer, but they did not sync to my Roku app. And I scheduled an Internet radio station to record, but the recording period has passed and the recording still shows as scheduled, with no recording placed in my library.

DriveCast is labeled as Beta on the website, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there are compatibility issues between some video formats and the Roku player. However, the website does not have any information regarding what content is Roku compatible, so expect to spend some time playing around with this app trying to find out what it will and will not play on your Roku. And if you do, please post feedback in the comments section below to give other Roku users the benefit of your experience.
